What is Reductil?
Reductil is a slimming pill, which aid weight loss and is available only through prescription. Doctors prescribe Reductil to patients who are overweight or clinically obese. How does Reductil work?
Reductil contains sibutramine as active ingredient, which works to inhibit neurotransmitters in the brain and maintains the level of serotonin and noradrenaline in the brain. These two chemicals help regulate energy intake and output. These two neurotransmitters, serotonin and noradrenalin, are responsible for passing messages between nerve cells in the brain, and are associated with feelings of well-being and are responsible for moderating mood. Reductil blocks these chemicals and hence there are more of these molecules freely moving around the nerve cells, which have the effect of making the brain feel satisfied and suppressing appetite. So after eating a sensible, healthy meal, people do not feel hungry.
In what dosages is Reductil available?
Reductil comes in tablet form in strengths of 10mg and 15mg. The recommended dosage of Reductil should be taken one hour before eating. The standard recommended dosage in the morning one hour before meal.
What are the contraindications for Reductil?
Reductil may not suit everyone. Certain conditions are not conducive to intake of Reductil among patients and they are as follows:
· Those patients who are allergic to the ingredients of Reductil should not take it
· Patients with history of medical conditions such as heart diseases, stroke or high blood pressure should avoid intake of Reductil
· Reductil is not safe to use by patients who experience hardening of arteries
· Reductil is also not safe to be used by patients suffer from any conditions such as liver or kidney problems, prostate or thyroid problems, and growth of adrenal glands
· Pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers should avoid Reductil
· Reductil is only recommended for use by patients between 18 to 65 years of age.
· Those patients who have anorexia or bulimia should not take it
· Patients with history of drug or alcohol problems should avoid it
· Patients taking medicine like tryptophan for disturbed sleep, phentramine or diethylproplon for weight reduction for the last fortnight should avoid Reductil dosage
· Reductil is not good for patients with eye disease or narrow angle glaucoma
· Those patients who have Tourette syndrome should avoid Reductil
What are the side effects of Reductil?
Some mild side effects of Reductil are restlessness, nervousness, anxiety, mild headache, dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth, and constipation. Allergic reactions due to Reductil such as difficulty in breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, face, or hives may occur. Other side effects include irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, severe headache, and blurred vision.
